In Slovenia, Firefox remains firmly at the top

Firefox fortifies its leading position; popularity of Google Chrome web browser continues its rise.

iPROM's November analysis of web user habits shows that Slovenian Internet users continue using Firefox web browser most frequently. With 41.2 percent of market share it is firmly holding the top position.

The popularity of Chrome is still rising

This analysis also revealed that popularity of Google Chrome web browser is still rapidly increasing among Slovene internet users – according to analysis from March Chrome namely gained additional six percentage points and is with 20.1 percent holding the third position.
Internet explorer is holding the second position with 34.9 percent of usage among web media users. Analysis was conducted with iPROM AD Server solution for distribution, targeting and tracking of ad materials on the web.
• According to the previous analysis in March 2011, Firefox gained 0.7 percentage points and with 41.2 percent share of users fortified its leading position.
• In the same time Internet Explorer lost 4.8 percentage points, but remains second.
• Google Chrome gained 5.8 percentage points and holds the third position.
• With less than four percent combined Safari (1.9 percent) and Opera (1.5 percent) web browsers follow.

The majority use the latest versions of web browsers

The majority of Firefox and Chrome web browser users mainly use the latest generations of browsers. The majority (58.19 percent) of Internet Explorer web browser users use version 8, whereas one fourth of users use version 9. Version 6 is used by only just over five percent of all Internet Explorer users.

Analysis of operating system use

The analysis of operating systems revealed that the majority of users use Microsoft Windows operating systems:

• The most popular is still the Windows XP with 46.4 percent, but is losing popularity to Windows 7.
• Since the survey in March Windows 7 gained 13 percentage points and is currently used by 41 percent of Slovene web media users.
• It is followed by Windows Vista, the share of which dropped from 9.5 to 6.7 percent.
• Mac OS and Linux operating systems combined have just over five percent of users.

The most popular display resolution:
• The most popular display resolutions among users are 1024x768 pixel (18%) and 1280x1024 pixel (17%) resolutions, typical of 17 and 19-inch monitors.
• With ten percent each, the 1280x800 pixel and 1366x768 pixel resolutions follow, typical of laptops.
• They are followed by the 1680x1050 pixel resolution (9 percent), typical of 20-inch monitors and higher.
• Next are 1440x900 pixel (6%) display resolutions that are characteristic of the latest laptops.
• Six percent of usage is noted among FULL HD resolution displays (1920x1080 pixels).

The evaluated profile of an average user of Slovene web media remains according to iPROM's analysis results the same as with the last analysis. The average user uses Windows XP operating system with a 1024x768 pixel display resolution and the Mozilla Firefox 8 or Internet Explorer 8 browser.


Methodological data

With its iPROM Ad Server software solution the iPROM company continuously follows technological characteristic of Slovene web users’ computers and at the same time also checks the types of browsers, operating systems and display resolutions. The analysis has been done in the end of November 2011; a seven-day sample in accordance to IAB standards included 183 million measurement claims.
