Browsers Internet Explorer and Firefox almost equally popular

iPROM has announced that at the end of February web browsers Internet Explorer and Firefox were equally popular among Slovene internet users.

The latest web media survey carried out with Iprom AD Server solution for distribution, targeting and tracking of ad materials on internet revealed that web browsers Internet Explorer and Firefox share the first place in popularity, each having a 45 percent support of users. In the third place, with more than 3 percentage points of growth in comparison to previous analysis done in the middle of last year, remains Google web browser Chrome.

Among Microsoft Internet Explorer users there has been a slight growth in the last six months of the use of version 8, as almost half of the users are using it. More than a quarter of Internet Explorer users still use version 7 and almost an equal number of users still use version 6. Firefox users still prefer version 3, which is used by 96 percent of them. Google web browser Chrome is listed in the third place of popularity with 5.8 percent of users. It is followed by Opera with 2.6 percent and Safari with 1.9 percent of users.

Other technical characteristics of Slovene web media users’ computers

The results’ analysis of measurements revealed that Microsoft Windows XP still strongly leads with 68 percent of users on the scale of the most widespread operational systems. But there is a fall for almost 12 percentage points in comparison to last year, which can be ascribed to Microsoft Windows 7 operational system. It is used by nearly 12 percent of web users. Windows Vista operational system is also used by 12 percent of users, however its use dropped for 5 percent in the last six months.

The survey revealed that the most popular display resolution remains 1024x768 pixels (26 percent), but its popularity is dropping as expected. It is followed by users with the display resolution 1280x1024 that is characteristic for 17- and 19-inch LCD monitors. On the third place there are users with 1280x800 display solution, typical of most of the laptops. The growing trend is seen among large resolutions that are typical of 20- and more inch monitors and for some larger laptops.

Based on measurements iPROM described the profile of an average Slovene web user; who uses a display solution of 1024x768 or 1280x1024 pixels, the Windows XP operational system, and the Mozilla Firefox 3 or Internet Explorer 8 browser.
